kohsunrise

We got up early and saw a beautiful sunrise while walking down the coast from Bang Por toward Mae Nam.  We had to climb up over a rocky headland and through some deserted rock-strewn beaches before we made it around to the long stretch of nice sand.  We went for a swim in the crystal clear water.  It was more like swimming in a large lake or pool than what we would normally think of as the ocean.  We could see our toes and the shells on the sand while we swam!  We bought a watermelon for 25 baht (75 cents) and split it while lounging in our hammock.

We caught a sangthaew around the island to the popular Chaweng beach.  There were some fishing boats at one end of the beach.  It had a few more visitors than the other side of the island, but still wasn’t anywhere near as crowded as Daytona Beach gets.  We walked along the beach, admiring the soft white powdery sand and turquoise water.  After another dip, we got a sangthaew back and caught another sunset before turning in for the night.

Such a beautiful sunrise!!! Watermelon on the beach - yum! (P.S. - what’s a sangthaew, again?)

Hey Sandra!
A sangthaew is a pickup truck with benches in the back used as a taxi/bus, etc. We see them packed to the gills with children standing and hanging off the backs going to school in the morning.
Love you, Lisa and Eric
