The next day we got a bus to Kuala Lumpur and were pleased to find that the bus station is right in town. We quickly found lodging and headed out for the markets. We wandered through the streets of China Town, the old market, and Little India. It was really amazing to see so many cultures blending so comfortably. Muslim women covered head to toe in black with only a slit for their eyes were shopping alongside Indian women in Saris with bindis and arm bracelets as well as Chinese and foreigners in western clothes.

We ate at an outdoor foodcourt in Little India and enjoyed watching them cooking naan bread on the sides of a ceramic oven. In the evening we went dancing at a Latin club with salsa and bachata music.

The next day we flew to Bangkok, Thailand. The lines in the airport were reminiscent of Mexico City right after the Christmas holiday! We made it through immigration after a few hours and had some difficulty finding our checked bags (because there were so many bags from different flights piling up in the airport). We did some searching around and found a way to get into town on local buses. This route took us through Victory Point, where there was a lovely night market taking place.

In the evening, we went to the Patpong Night Market in the red light district of Bangkok.  While browsing the souvenir stands we had to fend off numerous offers for sex shows, etc.  They actually had menu’s of the acts they would perform.  We found our way to a salsa club but didn’t stay too long because we had had such a long day.
